In finance there is an aspect to money called the time value of money which basically means time is money. If I offer to give you a 10% interest rate on $1,000 and you say well there are some things I may want to buy maybe next year. In one year if there are monthly compoundings your future value would have been $1,105. I then come back to you and say ok I really want to help you out the interest rate is up to 15% and you decline me again, your $1,000 would have increased to $1,161 in only one year, but if you would have invested the first time it would now be $1,282.
In God's kingdom a similar rule applies; if we accept the first option God pays interest on our lives and it is quite a high rate of return. If we keep our $1,000 dollars and go our own way only He knows how long he will wait until he says "OK, I'm done waiting for you, I'm going to find someone else to invest in me"
Revelation 2:21 "And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent.
22 Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds.
And the results of the first option
Revelation 2:26 And he who overcomes, and keeps my works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations
27 He shall rule them with a rod of iron; they shall be dashed to pieces like the potter vessels as I also have received from my Father
28 and I will give him the morning star.
