In 2 Samuel Chapter 23, the chapter is titled in my bible The Last Words of David. At the end of David's life the last few things he was to say would be sure to be very important. One of the last things he touched on was how to rule effectively and how he ruled using what he learned.
2 Samuel Chapter 23:3 The God of Israel said, The rock of Israel spoke to me; He who rules over men must be just, Ruling in the fear of God.
As a ruler it can probably be easy to become caught up in the moment of power and feel as if you have no one to answer to. That is why it is so important to rule in the fear of God knowing that no matter how much power you have you will be accountable to Him.
2 Samuel Chapter 23:4 And he shall be like the light of the morning when the sun rises, A morning without clouds, like the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shinning after rain.
David knew if he ruled in the fear of God it would bring a glow around him and he would be a light to the darkness around him.
2 Samuel Chapter 23:5 Although my house is not so with God, Yet He has made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things and secure. For this is all my salvation and all my desire; Will He not make it increase?
The end of that scripture is really good because David knew if he ruled in the fear of God and was accountable to Him that he would increase David's covenant in all things and make his covenant secure.
This is just a small sample of the many scriptures dealing with being a leader and the blessings of God for fearing him.
