Temporary Hardship for Eternal Glory

In my readings today I came across 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 which basically sums up and explains the entire Christian faith in 3 verses. Starting with 16

2 Corinthians 4:16 Therefore we do not lose heart, Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.

This speaks of our daily walk with God and how our flesh must die and our spirit man must grow. Because of this it doesn't matter how we feel in our flesh but what truly matters is our growth spiritually.

2 Corinthians 4:17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.

This scripture can mean it hurts and is against everything we feel to resist the desires of our flesh but this is only a light affliction compared to the eternal glory we will inherit. Also the weight of glory, or the amount of eternity vs. a few short years on earth is so much greater why wouldn't you want to endure such a short time for such a long reward.

2 Corinthians 4:18 While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

This scripture can be applied to so many different situations and mean so many different things, which is why God's word is so amazing because it is alive and can be applied to so many different situations. In the context I'm reading this scripture it is saying not to focus on the world or our gains but to put our focus on God and the things of God. This can be very difficult because it requires faith and I feel this is the hardest thing to overcome to believe in God.

If God had a weekly press conference and appeared to man regularly there would be many more believers. God doesn't want this; he wants people who are capable of seeing past the present and temporary things and people who can take a risk and believe in something unseen for these are the things that truly matter and are eternal.
